Projects undertaken have largely fallen into one of the following two categories:

• policy formulation for local or state government agencies in relation to recreation or tourism development or management issues

• assistance for companies entering the tourism industry, by way of business planning, market research, and negotiating 'red tape'

We aim to provide practical cost-effective solutions to management problems, to generate ideas that will enhance business performance, and to assist in the development of public policy that is both effective and politically acceptable.

Our reports are not full of meaningless generalities, or simply a 're-hash' of information that you already had access to. Our reports are readable, sensible and seek to provide workable answers to specific issues of concern to your organisation.

While we are a small organisation, we maintain links with a select group of consultants in related areas whose competence and integrity we acknowledge. Initial issue analysis and preparation of the project brief

If you have not already prepared a project brief then we can conduct initial meetings and investigations culminating in the preparation of a draft project brief, which is then finalised in close consultation with you. A well-prepared project brief can prevent misunderstandings that could otherwise result in wasted time and money.

The brief provides the consultant with important information such as:

• your aims and objectives in commissioning the project
• information and other resources that you can provide to the consultant that are relevant to the issue being addressed
• the history of the issue and your views in relation to it
• your requirements regarding the acceptable time frame for the project
• payment procedures
• your requirements regarding reporting procedures during the course of the project, and the nature of the final report

Conducting an information search

Almost everyone has heard of the term "re-inventing the wheel", yet still this problem occurs daily. Gathering fresh data (or 'primary research') is generally time-consuming and expensive.

Through access to specialist libraries, the Internet, and a large network of government and industry contacts, we can identify information relevant to your particular needs which will minimise (or possibly even avoid) the need for primary research.

Undertaking research

Where existing information cannot give us the answers that we need, Meet the People will design and undertake a program of productive research based around your own particular requirements.

Some examples of the investigations that we can carry out include:

• research comparing organisational performance with competitors or industry bench-marks, e.g. market overview studies, competitor comparison studies

• research to identify areas of current business activity where performance could be enhanced (ie. 'trouble-shooting')
